OGDEN - Marion Varlene Cook Geddes, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend died Monday morning February 20, 2006 after a long and stoic battle with cancer. Surrounded by her husband of 49 years and several of her children, she died in Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and one daughter, Elizabeth Marie Geddes. She is survived by her 51 grandchildren, her husband Dr. Wilford H. Geddes of Ogden, Utah and their twelve children: Marian Salmon (Brad), Layton, Utah; Derald Geddes (Gina), Ogden, Utah; Da'nell Cannon (John), Boise, Idaho; Diane Berlin (John), Orem, Utah, Debbie Geddes, St. Louis, Missouri; Ryan Geddes (Jonnette), Zanesville, Ohio; Karen Garnett (Mark), Spearman, Texas;

Varlene was born May 6, 1934 to Delbert and Marion Cook in Ogden, Utah. She married Wilford Hatch Geddes December 27, 1957 in the Logan Temple. After graduating from BYU in 1955 with a degree in Elementary Education, she taught school for two years. Winner of the BYU Heber J. Grant Oratory Contest, she had a great gift for journalism and speech. She was active in PTA and school volunteering, a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, and a dental receptionist at her husband's office. She had an inexhaustible capacity to serve others. Her life's work and joy was centered in family and she leaves a legacy of unwavering faith, hard work, and giving of self. Her life and loving example of unselfishly caring for others is an inspiration to her husband, children, and 51 grandchildren.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, she recently served a full-time mission with her husband to the NYC South
Mission. She has also served as stake primary president, stake missionary, teacher in numerous auxiliaries, ward music chairman, and other service callings.

A pillar of strength to all who knew her, she will be greatly missed-but her memory will live on in the heart of every family member and friend as they remember her love of life and learning, her quiet grace and patience in long-suffering, and her tremendous devotion to her family, faith, and the Lord.
