Oscar F Sandstrom, 47, 3514 Belknap St, Superior, WI, died early Tuesday morning at his home following a sudden illness. He was born April 26, 1910 at Bayfield, WI and had resided in Superior for the last 15 years.
He attended Bryant, Ericsson and Central High School, leaving high school early to help his parents make a living. He joined the CCC's in Brule and was part of the group transferred to Camp Pattison (Company 3663) to help in the building of Pattison Park, south of Superior, plus assisting in repairing the bridge at the falls in Amnicon Falls Park. He learned the welding trade while a part of the CCC group. Also, while with the CCC's he was a member of the band and glee club.
He was currently a welder at the Knudsen Shipbuilding and Drydock Co and during WWII held a similar job at Walter Butler Shipyards. While at Butler, he was a member of the Company Band. He was a member of the Boilermakers Union, Local #117 and the Barber Shop Quartet Society.
Surviving are his wife Marjorie L; a son, Oscar F, Jr; a daughter, Marjorie R; his mother, Mrs Rose (Peter) Olson; all of Superior.
Pallbearers will be Robert McCarthy, Charles Leaf, Earl Lessor, James Gylland, Orin Smith and Harvey Earl. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
