Charles was the oldest child of Elwood and Elizabeth Ann (Ludy) Hiatt. At the death of his father he received about 45 acres east of Winchester, IN on county road 100 north.
Mr Hiatt was a farmer, had a diary, drove a school hack and in 1926 opened Hiatt's Slaughter House for custom butchering. In 1946 son Harold and his wife Martha Ellen moved to the Hiatt farm and operated the slaughter house until his retirement. The farm in now owned by Harold's daughter Marjorie Ketner.
Charles L Hiatt was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was honored on his 50th year of membership. All of his wives lived within a mile of the farm. He, his wife Myrtle and son Harold and his wife were life long members of the White River Friends Meeting.
