Little Naomi Almeida was born to Shawna Turner and Al Almeida December 8th, 1995. She has 2 siblings, one a brother named Travis. Naomi lived in Saskatchewan with her Mom, and visited her Dad who lived in an appartment in London, Ontario. She was a nice, caring, smart, beautiful, small girl who liked cats, her family, friends and loved life.
When it was time to be tucked in at night, Naomi would lie down. Her Mom would throw the blankets and pull them back, saying "Woosh" as she let the sheets float over her daughter. Naomi, with long, dark hair and matching brown eyes would smile and laugh. Naomi would get three 'wooshes' each night before she and her Mom kissed each other good night. Who knew that the woosh and kiss that August night would be the last?
In the summer of 2001, Naomi and her Mom were visiting her Dad in London. They were staying in his appartment and Naomi was sleeping on the couch. For no reason, Thomas Hurst, a man in his early 20s broke into the appartment. He saw Naomi there, and took her. She screamed and tried to bite him so he covered her mouth. Thomas then threw her over a fence, raped and then murdered her and stuffed her 32lb. little body into an athletic bag. He and his Mom turned him in that day.
Thomas is now serving a life sentence with chance of parole in 25 years, for first-degree-murder, kidnapping and sexual assault. Naomi didn't even reach her 6th B-Day. Her family is now forever broken because of this horrible man, Thomas Hurst. Shawna is by herself, and tried to commit suicide and turns to the bottle because she's got no one left. He destroyed his own life, and the life of an innocent child. Naomi rests in a cemetery in Saskatchewan, her heart-shaped headstone simply reading,
Never forget you
Always in my heart
I'm forever looking to the sky for you to be
On the clouds above me
Mommy misses you sooo much
I love you always and forever
*Note=Naomi is not buried in Michigan as said below, Find A Grave doesn't show cemetaries in Canada so I had to choose a random city in the USA.
