On September 15, 2012, Dianna Kay Smith of Heber Springs went home to be with the Lord. Kay was born in Fort Smith, AR, on November 2, 1951 to her parents, John and Jaunita Hogan. The day she was born a light began to shine. She was a daddy's girl and her mother's pride and joy! She had many cousins with whom she played and she spent much time with her aunts and uncles. Kay was not only a light to her parents, but also a light to her grandparents, Roscoe and Ruby Hogan of Rover, AR, and Clyde and Eurania Barnes of Hartford, AR. Kay was an athlete, and her light shone on the basketball court as well as throughout the hallways of Plainview and Ola Schools. She had many dear friends and made many memories that she has shared with others throughout her life. Her parents gave her a wonderful gift of a little brother, Ricky Lynn Hogan. He always tried to be right by her side, even following her on dates! Now, he lives with his wife, Debbie, in Carthage, TX. His two children, Jennifer and Jeremy, also make their home in Texas. Unfortunately, Kay and Ricky lost their daddy at a young age. Their mother went on to marry Jack Buckman, of Ola, AR, and soon afterwards Kay was given a little sister, Jackie Jill Buckman. Jill now lives in Plainview, AR, with her husband, Billy Yates and children, Ady and Cort. Kay went on to marry and give birth to two lights of her own, Guy Russell Hanna and Kacie Leigh Hanna. Russ now lives in Judsonia, AR, with his wife, Amanda, and their two girls, Payton and Paige. Kacie now lives in Heber Springs with her two boys, Logan and Landon Jones. Kay always had a heart for the medical field, she became a registered nurse and worked almost her entire life with people in need. She worked in the emergency room at White Co. Medical hospital for many years. Her light was shining as she worked lovingly on all that she served and as her words touched the lives of families during times of sickness and tragedy. She was always quick to spread the kind of love that Jesus showed her. During her ER career she met and fell in love with the love of her life, David Smith. After they married, they made their home in Heber Springs, where David was the chief of police. She was blessed with more children at this time, Karey and Stacy Smith. Karey now lives in Greenbrier with her husband, Jeremy Livingston, and their four boys, Jacob and Caleb Tapley and Caleb and Isaac Livingston. Stacy lives in Harrison, AR, with her husband, Scott Moore, and their three children, Camie, Kinley, and Easton. Kay soon left the ER and began her service in home health. She was the home health specialist for Cleburne and White Co. Kay was a light to her patients and her nurses until her illness forced her to retire in July 2012. Kay had another family, and it was her church family. She was a member of the Sugarloaf Baptist Church in Heber Springs. She knew she had a loving Father in Heaven and she was always quick to share the word with others. She had a passion for seeing others learn about Jesus Christ, so much so that she was working with Team Kid at her church. When you would see Kay, she always had her light shining. Her smile and joyous laughter would reach out and get a hold of you. Even in dying, her light was shining. Cancer could not take that from her. She never lost her faith and kept striving for her heavenly home. Her wish was that all would find their way home too.
