Venus C. Cope, 77. Retired Merchant Dies Of Illness
Venus C. Cope, retired Warren county merchant and well known McMinnville citizen, died at his home on North Spring street Thursday morning at 5:45 o'clock following an illness of six months. He was 77. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the chapel of High Funeral Home with Elder J. E. Christopher of Athens, Ala., officiating. Burial was in Concord cemetery. Mr. Cope, a native of Cannon county, was born July 12, 1874. He was a son of Jasper Cope and Sarah Rogers Cope and he was first married to Miss Sally Williams. She died in 1931. He later married Miss Bernice J. Rymer, who survives. Mrs. Cope for a number of years operated a general store at Tanyard Springs. In recent years he had been engaged as an insurance salesman in McMinnville and he was a member of the Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Cope is survived by one son, Charlie Cope, McMinnville, and a daughter, Mrs. H. S. Burnett, Chattanooga, both by his first marriage, and two daughters by his last marriage, Mrs. John D. Green and Miss Dianna Cope, both of McMinnville; one brother, Claude Cope, McMinnville, and two step-sisters, Mrs. Florence Schrock, McMinnville, and Mrs. Frances Dodson, Shawne, Okla. Arrangements were by High Funeral Home.
