Randy Atkinson, 57, of Boise, returned with honor to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 22, 2011.
Randy was born on August 1, 1953 at Hill Air Force Base in Clearfield, UT to Marlene Walker Ishihara and the late Perry Lewis Atkinson. He graduated from Layton High School in 1972. He served for 21 years in the Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He then worked for Micron Technology for 14 years.
He loved to hunt, camp and fish. Spending time with family and friends, especially if it was outdoors in God's wonderful world, always made him smile. He gave faithful service in various leadership positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Randy's family was everything to him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Brown Atkinson; and children Brandon(Marcie) Atkinson, Kamela(Nathan) Miller, Nathan(Melanie) Atkinson, Josh(Brenna) Atkinson, Aubrey(Adam) Fuhriman, Adam Atkinson, Eden Atkinson(and fiancÚ Quinn Braden) and Summer Atkinson; 12 grandchildren, Kylie, Taylor, Tristan and Hayden Atkinson, Darien, Ellie, Kayla and Kendall Miller, Morgan, Mason, and Mackenzy Hannigan, and Jamee Atkinson; his siblings, Rick Atkinson, Shari(Steve) Lockwood, Brenda(Russell) White, Ron(Julie) Atkinson, Bob Atkinson and Marianne(Richie) Lincoln; numerous aunts, uncles, in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. A son, Micah Atkinson and his father, Perry Atkinson, predeceased him.
The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the Columbia Village building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3800 East Grand Forest, Boise, Idaho, with Bishop Steve Kenyon officiating. Burial will follow at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. There will be a viewing Wednesday evening at Relyea Funeral Chapel, 318 N. Latah in Boise from 6:00 to 8:00 and Thursday morning at the church from 9:30 to 10:45 prior to the service.
The family would like to thank Randy's oncology teams from MSTI: Dr. Norman Zuckerman, Cathleen and Paula and their wonderful nurses and the VA Hospital: Dr. Zuckerman, Tonya, Janet, Betty, Barbara, Joan, Colleen, Lindsay, Jason, Mike, and all the kind and patient nurses who attended him in his final days.
