Notes and research by Betty Gardner, 37 RR 2, Camden, IN received from Susan Briggs 3/23/1998:
William Albert was a very distringuished man. He had a Doctorate degree. He was a Baptist Minister. They lived, for a number of years and taught at LaGrange College. He also had two or three little country churches that he was the minister. His wife, Blanche, was the house mother for the dormitory. I don't know who all he married but I know he married Basil and Jeanne and Chester and Ethel Gardner on 25 December 1935 and that Ray and I. along with my parents and Chester and Ethel Gardner all drove out to LaGrange College. They took us for a drive around Hannibal and we saw the landmarks, then he said, "I guess we'd better take these kids back to the college and get them married." So we were married in the dormitory and both pairs of parents were our witnesses. Then we all went back to Bob and Ellen's where she had dinner for us. Our parents stayed there overnight and we started back, driving through the Ozark's. We drove as far as Mexico, Missouri that night and stayed in a small motel (that was all there was at that time). We made a trip out west in in 1985 and on our way home, stopped in Mexico and stayed the night! Some 49 years later. William and Blanche came back to Indiana after his retirement. Bob and Ellen moved back to the Dunes area. They lived with them until Uncle Billie's death. Uncle Billie had heart problems for a number of years and took medication for it. In spite of his health problems, he lived to be abmost 81 years.
