Israel Levi Hake
Birth: Sep. 24, 1851
Trumbull County
Ohio, USA
Death: Apr. 11, 1925
Wapato
Yakima County
Washington, USA

Levi was the son of David Hake and Dorothy Hood. On March, 16, 1875 in Koshkonong, Jefferson, Wisconsin, he married Margaret Olive Spaulding and they had seven children:

Robert Lee (1 Anna Lee Dale, 2 Roxcia Ingalls)
Alvin Elmer (Lyda Blanche Worline)
Eugene (1 Agnes Ida Smith, 2 Mary (Ogilvie) Douglas)
Ernest Rexford (Nikolina "Lena" Sigurdson)
Emmagene (John Dantworth Harrington)
Lyman Edgar (Nannie Edith Gale)
Ira (Hattie Burns)

Early documents from the 1870s and the 1900 census give his name as Levi E. Hake. So does the marriage certificate in the family Bible. He is usually referred to as Israel Levi by family members and that is the name on the cemetery record presumably supplied by his widow. He taught school in Fort Atkinson, Jefferson, Wisconsin prior to his marriage and at least one of two existing teaching certificates has his name as Levi E Hake.

His first two children were born in Jefferson County, Wisconsin and his third, Eugene, was born in Logan, Lincoln County, Kansas where Levi also taught school and tried farming. By 1882, when Ernest was born, the family was in Seattle, Washington. They had travelled by train to San Francisco and from there by boat to Seattle. They lived in various places in western Washington finally settling in the small town of Edison in Skagit County where Levi owned a small stage coach operation mainly delivering supplies to logging camps but also carrying people and the US Mail between the towns of Edison, Bow and Belfast.

Levi was quite musical and organized bands nearly everywhere he lived. His band marched in parades and played for Saturday Night dances.
