Ezra Vaughn Abbott, 90, died October 15, 2002, at his residence. Vaughn was born in St. George, Utah, October 31, 1911 to David Arthur Abbott and Emma Chloe Gardner. He and his late wife, Wanda came to Reno in 1933 and have made their home in this area since that time. Mr. Abbott, retired, had been Office Manager at 7-Up Bottling Co. He had attended Brigham Young University and had graduated from Virgin Valley High School in Bunkerville, Nevada. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Vaughn held many positions of leadership including Bishop, Stake President and Stake Patriarch as well as President of the Exchange Club of Reno.
Achievements attained are the Silver Pine Cone and the Silver Beaver Awards from the Boy Scouts of America and the Humanitarian Award from the L.D.S. Business Association.
Surviving are one sister, Maurine Hughes; and three children, Karen Abbott Beyer of Reno; David Wayne Abbott of Sparks; and Eileen Abbott Ross of Las Vegas. His wife, Wanda preceded him in death in March 2001. He has 17 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, October 19, 2002, 11:00 AM with visitation preceding from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Chapel, 2505 Kings Row, Reno. Burial will be at the Mountain View Cemetery on Monday at 9:30 AM.
A memorial fund is being established with the Boy Scouts of America, 5150 Mae Anne Blvd., Reno, NV 89523.
