Robert "Bob" Walz
Learn about upgrading this memorial...
Birth: Sep. 2, 1931
Death: Jan. 7, 2009

Bob was my neighbor until I married and moved out of my parents' house. He was one of my dad's good friends and always said hello when I was outside playing. I remember their dog, Buffy, a German Shepard. She was very old and didn't like people coming up to her much, but she always let me pet her. Bob was a great man and he is greatly missed and loved.

Robert "Bob" Walz, age 77, of Aurora, formerly of Elburn, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at Provena Mercy Center Hospital, Aurora following complications from diabetes.

He was born September 2, 1931, the son of Harry and Elsie (Szebler) Walz in Aurora, IL. Bob grew up on the south side of Aurora and graduated in 1949 from Marmion Military Academy.

On June 2, 1973 Bob was united in marriage to Kathy Skow. They began their new life together by building a home in the Stillmeadows Subdivision just outside of Elburn, IL. In 2008, they celebrated 35 years of a wonderful life together.

Kathy met Bob while both were working at Barber-Greene Company. Bob eventually retired after 26 years of service in 1985. Although officially retired from Barber-Greene, Bob wasn't ready to stop working. He then worked for Furnas Electric in West Chicago before retiring once more and for the last time in 1994.

Bob enjoyed membership in many associations including the Phoenix Club, Tiger Club, Barber-Greene Quarter Century Club and the EAA. In earlier years, both Bob and Kathy were active in the Grace Lutheran Church in Lily Lake. Later, when they downsized their home and moved to the Lora Lei Acres of Maywood in Aurora, they became active in St. Mark's Lutheran Church.

Bob's first priority and love in life was his family, but coming in a close second were golf and airplanes. He fulfilled his greatest dream when he actually took over the controls of a rebuilt B-17 Aluminum Overcast Bomber owned by the Experimental Aviation Association.

He now leaves his loving wife, Kathy; one son, Keith (Jennifer) Walz; one sister, Doris (George) Snyder; brother-in-law, Jerry (Jo Ann) Skow; one niece. Jane Burns; three nephews, John (Amette) Snyder, Joe (Sandy) Snyder and Jason Skow; one very special cousin-in-law, Johnny Skow; and a family of friends.

He now joins his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law; his niece, Julie Snyder; and nephew, Joel Skow, who preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. with a funeral to celebrate his life to follow at 11a.m., Monday, January 12th, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 27 South Edgelawn Drive, Aurora. Rev. Pastor Mindy Elliott and Rev. Pastor Pat Geisman, pastors of the church will officiate and interment will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name to benefit the American Diabetes Association, Shriners Hospitals For Children and St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Checks may be made to the "Robert Walz Memorial" and mailed in care of P.O. Box 66, Elburn, IL 60119.

Tributes and memories may also be forwarded to the family at the same address or through

Conley Funeral Home, 630-365-6414.
