CIVIL WAR VETERAN

Blacksmith, Co. H, 9th New York Cavalry

He was born in New York in 1845. He enlisted when he was 18 years old on 07 Oct 1861 at Dunkirk, NY as a Private. He mustered into his Regiment on 10 Oct 1861 and reenlisted on 20 Dec 1863. He was promoted to Blacksmith and mustered out of service on 17 Jul 1865 at Cloud's Mills, VA. He was reported as a POW on 11 Nov 1864 at Middletown, VA and was an inmate of Libby prison for six months. He applied for a pension from Pennsylvania. He died 10 Aug 1905 and his wife, Julia, applied for a widow's pension on 31 Aug 1905.
