Staff Sgt. Hector Leija, 27, of Raymondville, Texas, died Jan. 24 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered during combat operations. Leija was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash. He joined the Army shortly after graduation in July 1997. He is survived by his parents, Domingo and Manuela Leija and three brothers.
