Harry James Adam, 83 of Cherryvale, died Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at his home.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 21, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Buschmann officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetary with military rites conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 pm. Friday at Potts Chapel of Cherryvale, with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and may be left with the funeral home.
Mr. Adam was born May 7, 1922 in Independence to Charles P. and Bertha (Boswell) Adam He attended Independence High School and received his GED in 1991 from Independence Community College. At the time he was the oldest person to receive a GED from ICC.
Mr. Adam served in the United States Army during World War II, and was honorably discharged after he was disabled in the war.
In June 1947 he married Twyla A. Petty, and she died in 1988.
Mr. Adam worked as a tool and die machinist for Grinnels in Lubbock, Texas, ACC in Independence, CIP in Coffeyville and SEKTAM in Independence. He was a Baptist minister for over 50 years.
On January 11, 1991, he married Joycelyn Wilkinson in Independence where they made their home. The couple moved to Cherryvale in February 2005.
Mr Adam was a member of the First Baptist Church, American Legion, AARP, VFW and the Disabled American Veterans. He started the Rock of Ages Church in Lubbock and the Solid Rock Church in Independence.
Survivors include his wife, Joycelyn, of the home; three sons, Daniel R. Barrett, Chanute, Ronald A. Bise, Mound Valley, and Bryan L. Bise, stationed in Norfolk, VA; a daughter, Sheila D. Glaspie, Mound Valley; two brothers, Charles "Junior" Adam, Independence, and Jerry J. Adam, Derby; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
