ACTIVITY DURING WWII
ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON MAY 11, 1939. COMPLETED BOOT CAMP AT NAVAL TRAINING STATION, SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA. SERVED ABOARD OR AT THE LAPWING/BIRD CLASS MINESWEEPER USS GREBE AM-43; ESCAMBIA CLASS FLEET OILER USS PASIG AO-89; SMALL CRAFT TRAINING CENTER, TERMINAL ISLAND, CALIFORNIA; AND THE RAVEN/AUK CLASS MINE CRAFT USS CHAMPION AM-314. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A GUNNER'S MATE FIRST CLASS IN FEBRUARY 1946 AT U.S. NAVAL HOSPITAL, PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA. EARNED THE AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.

Adam Weston Bemount married Mary Elizabeth Burt on 16 June 1946 in Piggot, Clay County, Arkansas.

My Grandpa was always a Navy man. He served during WWII in the Pacific on a Minesweeper, and was at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7th, 1941 when the Japanese attacked. He also served during the seiges of Okinawa and Iwo Jima. He is buried next to my Grandmother, M...(Read more)
