John was a member of the 1975 graduating class of San Leandro High School. He was a Past Master Councilor of San Leandro Chapter Order of DeMolay, a Masonic youth group for teen boys. He worked as a reserve officer with the San Leandro Police Department and as a security officer at the Oakland Airport Hilton Hotel. He attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Oakland. He suffered from multiple sclerosis for many years and was survived by his parents and sister.
