|Birth: ||1608, England|
|Death: ||Nov. 26, 1667|
Born about 1608, based on deposition of 1660 which gave his age as 52, and on deposition of 1666, which gave his age as 58. (A deposition of 1665, which gave his age as "about fifty years," is rejected, because the age is given as a round number, and would make him only fifteen at the date he applied for freemanship, and about sixteen at marriage.) Carpenter who came to Massachusetts Bay in 1630 & settled in Salem.
Died in Salem before 26 November 1667 (administration granted on estate).
MARRIAGE: By 1657 Susanna _____; "Susana Archer" was admitted to Salem church on 31 May 1657 (although in the published church records this date is not certain); she married (2) Salem __ October 1668 Richard Hutchinson, and died Salem 26 November 1674. (Although this earliest reference to the wife of Samuel Archer comes years after his children were born, there is no indication that he had an earlier wife.)
Anna Falconer Perrin and Mary Falconer Perrin Meeker (as abetted by Frank Allaben) claimed a lengthy and illustrious English descent for Samuel Archer, making him elder brother of a certain Gabriel Archer of Warwickshire. This Gabriel Archer was a companion of Bartholomew Gosnold on his voyage of 1602. Since we know that Samuel Archer of Salem was born about 1608, he could not have been elder brother to Gabriel, and the absurdity of the claim becomes obvious. The claim that Samuel's son John was the John Archer who settled in New York later in the century is equally absurd.
Various secondary sources make an unusually large number of misstatements of relationship regarding the family of Samuel Archer:
