|Birth: ||Mar., 1799|
|Death: ||Jun., 1866|
One of my great, great, great grandfathers, he was a son of Thomas W. Clark, Sr., and Jemima Scutt. He was born in Pearisburg, Montgomery County, VA., however, today this area is located in Giles County, VA.
Married on Sep. 1, 1823, in Giles County, VA., to Susannah Mary Nida, daughter of Peter von Nida and Ellizabeth Shuck.
He and his family moved from Giles County, VA., to Gallia County, Ohio, about 1826, and lived in that area for roughly 30 years, when they moved again to Schuyler County, MO., in 1854 (according to the obituary of one of his daughters).
Probate records of Schuyler County, MO., show that he died prior to June 19, 1866. He died Intestate and his son Thomas Edward Clark and a son-in-law, William Alexander Clark (my great, great grandfather) were initially named as Administrators of his Estate. However, on June 19, 1866, they (Thomas and William) relinquished their "Legal powers as administrators of the Estate of James Clark Deceased in favor of King H. Lasley". King H. Lasley was a half-brother of William Alexander Lasley and he was also an attorney and a Justice of the Peace in Schuyler County, MO.
An "Appraisement Bill of the Estate of James Clark Deceased" was made on July 19, 1866, and it indicated that his Estate was valued at $172.90.
The "Final Settlement on the Estate of James Clark Deceased" was entered into the records of Schuyler County, MO., on Sep. 12, 1871, and the value of his Estate was valued at $168.08.
None of his Estate or Probate records make any mention of his wife, so we have to assume that she predeceased him and that she died sometime after June 30, 1860 (when the 1860 census of Schuyler County, MO., was conducted) and prior to June 1866.
