John Allerton was one of the 102 passengers that came to Plymouth on the Mayflower in 1620. It has been assumed that he was also the brother of other Mayflower passenger Isaac Allerton. Although this is a possibility, there has yet been any evidence to back this claim. However John does have a relationship to fellow passenger Degory Priest, who married his sister Sarah.
Although John Allerton did not intend to stay in Plymouth Colony, being only hired labor, he did participate in important colony activities. On November 11, 1620 he signed the Mayflower Compact, and on December 6 he participated in one of the expeditions around Cape Cod.
Sadly, John Allerton was never able to return to England and died the winter of 1621. It is presumed that he was married but the name of his wife has been lost in history. Any surviving direct descendants are also unknown.
