Sam Boen of Eugene Township, an old and respected citizen, died on last Thursday evening, March 1, 1900, aged past 63 years. He was an ex-Union soldier, having served in Co. G of the 73rd Illinois infantry, during the War of 1861-5. He was drawing a small pension for an ugly gunshot wound of the head. The cause of his death was diabetes. His wife died about 3 years ago. He leaves 2 children - a daughter and a son. His remains were interred in Yankee Point, IL.
