|Death: ||Jan. 31, 1925|
Civil War Union veteran; 19th Indiana Infantry, Company I "Spencer Greys" of Owen County, Indiana.
My son's great great grandfather was Hiram Antibus. We have visited his grave site and marveled at the humble stone which marks the grave of a soldier from this historic infantry brigade. Hiram was wounded at Antietam, captured at Gettysburg, paroled from Libby Prison, returned to the 19th, fought through the Wilderness campaign, and finally was severely wounded in the last battle for Richmond before the Petersburg siege. He recovered, traveled in the west after the war, returned to Indiana and raised a family in Knox County. Not a lot is known about him now, other than he had a "mean" disposition. No one wondered why.
