John & wife Anna (Dixon) Gibbons came to the United States on the ship "CITY OF WASHINGTON" from Liverpool, England. They arrived in New York City on 3/26/1867. (credit to Charlotte Smith for finding this info in her genealogy research; Charlotte, granddaughter of John's brother Patrick Gibbons)

OBITUARY; Iroquois County Times, Saturday 4/3/1886:
Died, last Sunday morning at eight o'clock, John Gibbons, Sr., of cancer in the stomach or the liver; his age was about 60 years. He leaves a wife, 3 sons & 3 daughters. All of them are married except two, a boy & a girl. They all live around here except Patrick, who is in Kansas.
Patrick was here a few weeks before his father died. Mr. Gibbons was buried Monday, at two o'clock from the Catholic Church, he had a very large funeral. Rev. Father Louis preached a good sermon, which made a great impression on those present. He told them to be prepared to meet the Just Judge, as they might be next to die.
