Dean B. Furst Dies, Member Pioneer Family
End Came After Long Illness, One of City's Best Known Business Men
Dean Beaver Furst, a member of one of the pioneer families of this city, and a well known business man, died at his home at 219 West Water street this morning at 4:20 o'clock after a long illness culminating in an attack of acute Bright's disease three weeks ago. He had been in poor health for a long time and had undergone treatment in Philadelphia during the past year.
Mr. Furst was 55 years old and had resided in this city all his life. He was the son of Jennie Beaver Furst and the late Cline G. Furst. He received his preparatory education at Dr. Cross' preparatory school at Kingston-on-the-Hudson and later attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he studied medicine.
Returning to this city, Mr. Furst entered the hide business with J. C. Curtis company and remained with that firm until it stopped buying country hides, when he entered the same business for himself. He was successful in his business enterprises and was well known throughout the eastern part of the country in the hide business.
In 1907 Mr. Furst was united in marriage with Margaret Dunn Fredericks, daughter of the late J. H. Fredericks, of this city. He is survived by his wife, his mother, and two sisters, Miss Edith Furst, of this city and Mrs. Charles Henry Greenleaf, of New Hampshire.
Mr. Furst was a highly respected citizen, helpful to his friends and employes. He was fond of out-of-door life and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal church, where he had served on the vestry.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Furst home in charge of Rev. Lewis Nichols and Rev. E. D. Parkhill. Friends who wish to view the body may do so between 11 and 12 o'clock Monday morning. Burial will be made in Highland cemetery.
