Sanford Duncan was one of the original settlers of Stillwater, Payne, Oklahoma. He, along with Robert A. Lowry and David Lewis each donated 40 acres of their claims to create the town of Stillwater.
There was alot of mystery behind his death.
His burial information is taken from his death notice which was published in the Stillwater Gazette in August 1895.
One newspaper reported the following:
"EVENING DEMOCRAT" WARREN, PA, THURSDAY, AUGUST 1, 1895.
Prominent Man Found Murdered.
STILLWATER, O.T., Aug, 1.-- SANFORD DUNCAN, a prominent citizen of this place, has been found murdered on the Arkansas river bank, near the line of the Pawnee reservation. There is no clue to the murderer.
