Jean Tennant Spicer, 80, of Duluth died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, in Tucson, Ariz.
She was a lifelong Duluth resident and a winter resident of Green Valley, Ariz., for the past 13 years. She married Richard G. Spicer in 1943, and they were blessed with 52 years of marriage.
She served on the St. Luke's Hospital Board of Directors for 10 years and was an honorary member of St. Luke's Volunteer Guild, having served as president for two years and volunteered for 25 years. Her community involvements also included Girl Scouts, Campfire Girls, Altar Guild at St. Edward's Episcopal Church, St. Luke's Hospice, Junior League and Duluth Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert H. and Helen Tennant; a dear sister, Betty Rhode; and her loving husband, Richard G. Spicer.
Jean is survived by daughters Lynn Spicer and her partner Vern Tucker, of Watertown, Wis., and Sara Spicer and her partner, Joseph Smith, of Tucson; a son, David Spicer; daughter-in-law Marti; and grandchildren Chris and Casey, all of Seattle; a brother, Robert Tennant, of Surprise, Ariz.; brother-in-law Robert Rhode of Duluth; sister-in-law Barbara McGregor of Washington D.C.; and many nephews, nieces and close friends.
Mom Spicer was much loved by her family. In her later years, her strong will to live fully was an inspiration to all. She is now at peace with her beloved husband, Richard.
Service: Thursday, December 28, in St. Edward's Episcopal Church, 4401 Glenwood St., Duluth. Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to St. Luke's Hospital and St. Edward's Episcopal Church. Arrangements by Bell Brothers Funeral Directors.
