Ancel C. Sapp, 91, of 4 Erven Ave., died at 3:45 p.m. Friday, June 18, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hagi Funeral Home. The Rev. Curtis Starner, pastor of Erven Avenue Baptist Church, and the Rev. Jerry McDaniel will officiate. Organist Michael Steed will play several appropriate songs.

Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be son, Ron Sapp; grandson-in-law, J.T. Smith; grandson, Rich Hansen; great-grandson, John Hansen; and Don Wampler and Bob Griswold.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Born Aug. 18, 1912 in Clay County near Xenia, he was the son of John Ernest and Mary (Phillips) Sapp. He married Ople G. Ferguson on Aug. 29, 1936 in Springfield. She survives.

Also surviving are daughters, Catherine Genette (Mrs. Glenn) Hansen of Streator and Karen S. DeVito of Triangle, Va.; a son, Ron (Brenda) Sapp of Eldon, Mo.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ernest Boyd (Linda) Sapp of Fairbury.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Virgil Sapp.

He attended Xenia and Carlyle Schools and graduated from Carlyle High School with the Class of 1930.

He farmed for many years and also had an upholstery business. He retired from farming in 1976.

Memorials may be donated to the Alzheimer's Disease Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
