Marion L. Geske died peacefully with his family by his side Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Virginia; two daughters, Lynn (Jose Morgan) and Margaret (James Papoe, deceased); beloved grandchildren, Katie and Daniel; brothers, James and Ronald; sister, Sylvia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his older sister, Lorraine and her husband, Eugene "Geno" Camel; and his brother-in-law, Thomas Shea.
Marion was born in Chicago to Marion and Harriet Geske. He grew up in an era, as he fondly remembered, when both the milkman and the iceman delivered their wares by horse-drawn carriage.
After completing his formal education and subsequent training, he moved to Wisconsin, where he met his wife, Virginia (nee Volker), at Hamilton's Manufacturing Co. in Two Rivers. They married in 1958 in Klondike, Wis., and moved in 1971 with his two daughters to Walnut Creek.
Marion was a long-time employee of Union Planing Mill in Stockton, where he worked as a draftsman. After his retirement, he took up the hobby of wood working, and frequented local arts and crafts sales with his yard art creations.
He also enjoyed traveling with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He took particular pleasure in explaining the finer points of building scooters out of old roller skates and packing crates.
A funeral mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 19, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fairfield. Private internment will take place at a later date in Wisconsin.
The family also wishes to thank Petula Gray of Apex Care, as well as Kaiser Hospital staff in Vallejo, for their kind and compassionate care of Marion at the end of his life.
Aged 80 years.
