Civil War Union Soldier. He was enrolled in the 3rd New Jersey Volunteer Infanty on May 27, 1861, and was mustered in as a Private in Company H on June 1, 1861. He served with his unit until he was transferred to the 21st Company of the 2nd Battalion of the Veterans Reserve Corps on September 1, 1863. He served in the VRC until he was discharged on May 18, 1864.
