Civil War Union Soldier. He was mustered in as a Private in Company C, 3rd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on May 25, 1861. He served with the regiment until he was transferred to Company A, 6th Veterans Reserve Corps on September 30, 1863. He served in the VRC until he was discharged on May 30, 1864.
