Alfred Byrd was a Civil War veteran with Captain James Bolen's Independent Kentucky Cavalry. He fought and was captured during the Fort Donelson/Fort Henry Campaign. He was a POW at Camp Morton in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was released and discharged on January 1, 1863.
