Services for Allen O. Hanson, age 79, were conducted from Lake Preston Lutheran Chruch on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Paul Rohdehad charge of the service with Mrs. Keith Hesby, organist, and Mrs. Dennis Tolzin, soloist, providing special music. Allen Oscar Hanson was born near Oldham, S.D., on Jan. 7, 1905, the fifth child, but first son in a family of ten, to Albert and Oliana Lee Hanson. Allen was baptized and confirmed into the Christian Faith at Oldham Lutheran. He attended school at Oldham, graduating from Oldham High School in 1923. Allen moved into the Lake Preston community in 1933, at which time he joined Lake Preston Lutheran Church, where he had since had continuous membership with the exception of a six year membership at Oldham Lutheran from 1957-1963. Allen married the former Selma Hedberg on September 1, 1940, at Lake Preston Lutheran Church. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter Dorothy, and a son John. It has grown to include a son-in-law, Bob Trumm, Jr., and a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Taylor Hanson, granddaughters, Terri and Patricia Trumm, and grandsons Todd Trumm, Paul and Chad Hanson. He farmed and worked as a laborer in this area until retirement in 1967. During his lifetime he shared his time and talents with his church, community and friends. He served in the Sunday School, as a church deacon, as a church treasurer, both in Oldham and Lake Preston, and for many years, as Oldham city auditor and as Lake Preston assessor. Allen had been courageously battling cancer for three years, succumbing at his home Saturday morning, May 19, 1984. Throughout this time, his patient suffering and stoicism had been an inspiration to his family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Helen, in 1919 and brother, Harlan, in 1981. He leaves to mourn; his wife Selma; daughter Dorothy and husband Bob son, John and wife Kathleen; five grandchildren; five sisters; Mable Skillestad and Clare Anderson, of Lake Preston; Olive Enger, of Simi Valley, Calif.; Alice Berry, of Austin, Minn.; and Amelia Chaudoin, Hurley, N.M.; two brothers; Gordon, of Edmonds, Washington, and Richard, of Simi Valley, Calif.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
