Peter Martel Tate, 62 of 840 Cardinal Drive, died Wednesday morning in the Anderson, SC. Memorial Hospital, following several years of declining health and three days of serious illness.
Born in Elbert County, he was a son of the late Ora Eugene Tate, Sr, and Carrie Hudson Tate. He was a retired granite manufactured, and a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Elberton Elks Lodge #1100 and Elberton Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs Mattie Chapman Tate of the home; one daughter, Mrs Jane Tate Edge of Elberton; one son, Brewer Tate of Elberton; Two sisters, Miss Carrie Sophia Tate and Mrs Raymond Miller, both of Elberton; three brothers, Albert Clarke Tate, St. of Arlington, VA., and Jefferson Davis Tate and George Tate, both of Elberton; four grand-children.
Funeral services were held this morning from the chapel of the Hicks Funeral Home with the Revs Jack Bozeman and George Hulsey officiating. Burial was in the Forest Hills Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers were Leo Haralson, Harry Miller Henry Ray, Claude Ray, Ralph McAllister, Norris Almond, Robert Andrews, and Harry W Saxon. Members of the Elberton Elks Lodge served as honorary Pallbearers.
