Olivers man, former Y-12 worker, dies
A former machine cleaner at Union Carbide's Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge, Auther Mitchell, 50, of 121 Richards Drive, Oliver Springs, died at his home the morning of Dec 29. He had been ill several months.
Mitchell retired in October. A native of Harlan, Ky., Mitchell had lived in Oliver Springs area since 1943. He was a member of Frost Bottom Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed working on cars and hunting and gardening.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Emma Jean Mitchell; three daughters, Mrs. Jeannie Carroll, Miss Connie Jean Mitchell, both of Oak Ridge, and Miss Diane Mitchell of Oliver Springs; two sons, Danny Ray Mitchell of Coalfield and Billy Joe Mitchell of Oliver Springs; six grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Leona Robbins, Mrs. Ruth Lawson, both of Oliver Springs, and Mrs. Bethelene Wynn of Danville, Ill.; and four brothers, Pettibone and Oscar Mitchell, both of Oliver Springs, Hugh Mitchell of Danville, Ill., and Roscoe Mitchell of Catlin, Ill.
Funeral services were held Friday at the Beech Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Howard Hannah officiating. Burial was in Black Oak Cemetery near Clinton.

Note: His name is Auther Mitchell, per his birth certificate. All his life they called him "Auther Ray." But, he had no middle name and they mispelled his name on the headstone-Not per his grandson and current person who maintains this memrial.
