Mel was born on May 19, 1930, to Marvin and Vada (Godsey) Wood, in Union, Oregon. He retires from the Oregon State Highway Department after 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ina Lea Gibbs Wood; grand-daughter Deena Furgerson and great-grandsons; Derick and Casey Furgerson; mother Vada Wood of Pendleton, Oregon; brothers; Darrell and wife Nellie of Union, Oregon, Duane and wife Ardythe of Pendleton, Oregon, sister Carol Hawthorne of Welches, Oregon; a very special friend to him and his family Troy Dowdy. Mel also leaves nieces and nephews and a host of loving friends.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Morrison and his brother, Darwin Wood.
It was Mel's wish that any donations in his name be made to Home Health Hospice c/o GRH Home Care Services, PO Box 3290, La Grand, Oregon 97850. The family wishes to acknowledge the staff of the hospice who were so caring during this diffucult time for him and his family.
