| Birth: | Jan. 8, 1825, England | | Death: | Apr. 22, 1899 Rockland Power County Idaho, USA | ♥ MY GREAT-GREAT GRANDFATHER ♥
Joseph was born January 8, 1825, in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England to William Brown and a yet unknown mother.
He came to America around 1853, settling in Michigan with his young wife and children. Not long after their journey, however, Joseph's family died in an epidemic. He then headed west to Utah.
In Utah, he met and married Jane Humble, also of England. They had eight children while there, all of whom were born in Meadow Creek in Millard County:
John Brown Thomas Humble Brown Jane Brown Mary Ann Brown Sarah Ann Brown Eva Francella Brown Joseph Brown William George Brown
Joseph, Jane, and family moved to Idaho in 1879, coming in a wagon train with the first group of settlers to the Rockland Valley. Only five of their eight children had survived to make the journey.
They homesteaded along a creek about two miles south of the present town site of Rockland. Joseph and Jane would go on to have five more children in Idaho:
Henry Able Brown Anthony Stevens Brown Josephine Brown Milton Brown Ernest Brown
Joseph had cattle and farmed the land, raising hay and grain.
He died April 22, 1899, in Rockland. He is buried next to his wife in Fairview Cemetery.
