Mae B. Adams, daughter of William Fielden and Maude L. Hake Benton, was born January 16, 1910, near St. George, Missouri. She departed this life Saturday, May 18, 2002, in the Hartville Care Center, in Hartville, Missouri, at the age of ninety-two years, four months, and two days.
On May 19, 1926, she was united in marriage to Archie Ulys Adams, and to this union one son was born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ulys, on July 6, 1983; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Pauline Adams; four brothers, Sherman, Sterling, Bob, and John Benton; and three sisters, Eva Austin, Mary Lawler, and Virgie Crisp.
Mae is survived by a grandson, David Adams, and his wife, Sue, of Lebanon, Missouri; a granddaughter, Brenda Groce, and her husband, Butch, of Lebanon, Missouri; four great-grandchildren, Michael Adams, and his wife, Rashonda, Richard Groce, and his wife, Emily, Ronda Morgan, and her husband, Jeff, all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Melissa Austin, and her husband, Doug, of Searcy, Arkansas; five great-great-grandchildren, Megan Adams, Lane and Presley Groce, and Zack and Sarah Morgan; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in the Cold Water community, in Wright County, Missouri. After she and Ulys were married, they made their home in the Jerktail community and lovingly raised their son. Throughout the years, Mae was a devoted and hardworking homemaker to her husband and family and had helped with the operation of their farm. She also had worked in the laundry at Fort Leonard Wood for a few years, and had served as the assessor for the Elk Creek Township. In 1993, she moved to Lebanon to be nearer her grandchildren. Mae was a member of the Church of Christ and attended the South Five Church of Christ in Lebanon.
She diligently worked in her garden and canned her homegrown produce. She also liked crocheting, quilting, and reading in her spare time. She was a sweet and thoughtful neighbor who was always giving and helping others. She centered her life around her family and was especially close to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Mae was a loving grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
