Mrs Mary Frances "Frankie" Hughes Ireland, age 67, widow of Asa William 'A. W.' Ireland, died Thursday, November 21, 1918 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law on Hicks Pike in Harrison County, KY of heart failure incident to arteriosclerosis and valvular heart disase.

Mrs. Ireland was the daughter of Joseph and Sarah Ann Hale Hughes of New Columbus, Owen County, KY.

Mary Frances and Asa William (A. W.) were married April 4, 1872 in Owen County, KY.

Mrs. Ireland was survived by five of her eight children; John Robert Ireland (Mattie), Joseph S. Ireland (Ollie), Hendrix Ireland (Effie), Mrs. Stella Ireland Forsythe (Fred), and Mrs. Allie Ireland Haley (Charles).

Mrs. Ireland's youngest son, George William Ireland (Iva), died two weeks previous (November 9, 1918) of influenze and pneumonia at the Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. Her son, Cleveline Ireland (Bessie) died in 1911 after being shot by his brother-in-law. Her son, Wesley Ireland (Ollie) also died in 1911 from an accidental gunshot. Two of Mrs. Ireland's young grandchildren predeceased her as well; Cecil May Ireland also in 1911 and Mary Alice Ireland in 1909.

Mrs. Hughes was also survived by eight siblings; Katherine 'Katie' Hughes Davis (J.C.B.); Rebecca Ann Hughes Works (Jefferson Davis); Cynthia 'Cynthie' T. Hughes Morgan (Ben) Fogle (Jasper); Nancy Ellen 'Nannie' Hughes Works (James Crawford); John William Hughes; Silas P. Hughes; Augustus 'Gus' Hughes, and George Samuel Hughes. Mrs. Ireland was predeceased by a brother,
Granville Hughes.

Several years prior to her death Mrs. Ireland became a member of the Mt. Gilead Methodist Church. For many years Mrs. Ireland resided in the Leeslick neighborhood, but for the year preceding her death she lived with her daughter, Mrs. Stella Forsythe.

Funeral services were held at the gravesite in Jacksonville Cemetery, Bourbon County, KY, on Saturday November 23, 1918.
