A Scott County resident, Mrs. Brooking was the daughter of John Robert and Mattie Baldwin Ireland. She was the great granddaughter of Joseph and Sarah Ann Hale Hughes.
Mrs. Brooking was a member of the Great Crossing Baptist Church, 1st Great Crossing Homemakers Club, and the Scott County Woman's Club, and she was a volunteer for the Central Kentucky Blood Center.
Mrs. Brooking's survivors included a daughter, Patsy Brooking Rich of Georgetown, Kentucky; two granddaughters, Lee Murray Jones of Columbus, Ohio and Susan Duvall Rick of Lexington, Kentucky; and four sisters, Mrs. Mildred Penn (William H.), Mrs. Alta Wood Ireland Cottrell (John Austin), Mrs. Ona Mae Ireland Hukill (John Thomas), all of Georgetown, Kentucky, and Mrs. Lucille Courtney of Carlisle, Kentucky. A daughter, Mrs. Ann Brooking Robb, preceeded her mother in death.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 1, 1995 at Johnson's Funeral Home in Georgetown, Kentucky by Rev. Robert Franz. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery, Stamping Ground, Kentucky. Pallbearers were Jimmy Richardson, Tommy Richardson, Judge George Lusby, Jack Wise, Charles Henderson, and Jimmy Adams. Honorary bearers were David Chowning, George Lockard, Bob Glass, Floyd Stamper, and Jack Lewis.
Mrs. Brooking was my second cousin once removed.
