Joseph, who resided at 204 West Seventh Street, Wilmington, Delaware, served with Company B, 48th Armored Infantry Battalion, 7th Armored Division, U.S. Army during World War II.
He enlisted in the Army on September 4, 1940, prior to the war, in Wilmington, Delaware. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the production of beverages and also as Single, without dependents.
Joseph served in the Panama Canal Zone, Dutch New Guinea and in Suriname before being returned to the United States. He received further training at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. He then went overseas to the European theatre in May. He was stationed in England before going to France and took part in the fighting there and in Belgium and Holland.
He had been wounded on September 30 in Holland and had gone back to active duty about October 15. He was first reported missing in action on Oct. 29 and later was reported killed in action on that date. His parents received word that their son was buried with military honors in Eastern Holland.
Joseph was "Killed In Action" in Holland during the war.
He had served with the Army for two years and four months at the time of his death and was decorated with a Purple Heart.
