|Death: ||Jun. 7, 2006|
Rae & I were in the same class at Weald of Kent School between 1967 & 1973. She was full of life and would skip everywhere. The last time I saw her was at a reunion to celebrate that our "year" had all turned forty, and yes she skipped into the room. She always had a smile on her face, which was infectious.
It was only yesterday at the 50th Anniversary of the school's opening, that we learnt of her passing in 2006. The following is from the local paper following her death.
Love for Children.....
RAE WHITEHEAD (nee McKeand) Of Knockholt, Kent, died on 7th June, aged 50 years.
After attending the Weald of Kent Grammar School for Girls and becoming a Queen's Guide she then worked for a year as a Diet Cook at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for sick children, before training as a Nursery/Infant Teacher at Sarum St. Michael's Teaching Training College in Salisbury. Her first teaching post was in Horsmonden. She followed this with a Degree in Education and posts in Tunbridge Wells as well as becoming the Deputy Head at Riverhead Primary School.
She started her own Nursery School in 1992, at first in her own home, then expanding to Chevening Church Hall, the Baptist Church Hall in Bessels Green and the Village Hall in Shipbourne.
She was full of love and care for all the children and always had new and innovative ideas.
Her illness caused her to part with her beloved Nurseries in 2004.
Although through the last eleven and a half years she was fighting cancer, she never let it rule her life.
She lived for the present, sharing her love of life with all those around her even to the last month when she was in the professional, loving hands of the staff in the Hospice in the Weald. Rae was rich in friends who loved her dearly. They all, in their own way, supported her tremendously.
Her Nursery School Parents and Staff raised money towards her Dendretic Cell Cancer treatment in Germany.
She will be sadly missed by all, particularly by her three children, Tim, Ben and Katie; her partner Anton, her mother Una and her brother Malcolm.
A Cremation will take place with her closest Family only.
This will be followed by a Service of Thanksgiving for her life at St Bartholomew's Church, Otford, on Tuesday 20th of June 2006 at 2.30pm.
Donations are being collected for the charity 'Tumor Immun Gesellschaft', the Dendretic Cell Cancer treatment fund, which she strongly felt was a pioneering way forward in cancer treatment without drugs.
It would be appreciated if cheques made payable to Tumor Immun Gesellschaft were sent to Welham Jones Funeral Directors, 156 London Road, Sevenoaks, TN13 1DJ.
Flowers may be sent if preferred.

When Angels visit us, we do not hear the rustle of Wings nor feel the feathery touch of a Dove. But we know their presence by the love they create in our Hearts. ~Mary Baker Eddy~|
