YAKIMA - Roxie Howerton, 91, died Saturday, May 12, 2007. She was born November 20, 1915 in Pond Fork, Missouri to Huston and Amanda (Simpson) Mahan. Mom married Delbert G. Howerton on January 26, 1935 in Thornfield, Missouri where they made their home until 1945 when they moved the family to Tieton. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in January, 1985.

Mom worked at New Valley Osteopathic Hospital as a practical nurse until her early retirement in 1977. She made a long-awaited trip to the Holy Land in 1990. She was a great lady to travel with and made many trips with her family.

Roxie is survived by her sons Lionel D. Howerton of Kennewick, David G. and wife Jeanne Howerton of Yakima, and her daughter, Debbie and husband Jack Grigsby Junior of Kennewick. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Doug Howerton, Brad Howerton, Brian Howerton, Tim Treat, Greg Treat, Sylvia Finch, Jennifer Grigsby and Jack Grigsby, III. Also surviving are 13 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by one brother, Buck Mahan of Ava, Missouri.

Mom was preceded in death by her husband Delbert G. Howerton and her daughter, Christine Treat.

A private family graveside service was held Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.

Valley Hills Funeral Home was entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
