Daisy Estelle Lyons Adams, 91, of Carolina Avenue, Boone, died Monday afternoon, July 26, 2010, at the Watauga Medical Center,

Daisy was born Nov. 2, 1918 in Blowing Rock to James Sanford and Lillie Hartley Lyons.

As a youngster, she did her part during the Depression. She worked in the Youth Club, sponsored by the Public Works Department. Her responsibilities included handing out brochures to tourists and giving directions to various attractions.

She attended public schools in Watauga County and Appalachian State Teachers College. Mrs. Adams was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Boone. The church was always central in her life and "The Golden Rule" was her guide for life.

Mrs. Adams was an artist. She often signed her work with a small daisy painted in the corner, or simply "Aunt Daisy."
Mrs. Adams was instrumental in the organization of the Blowing Rock Art in the Park. She sold her paintings at Art in the Park and at the Mountain Gift Shop in Blowing Rock, the store she and her late husband, Romulus Zachary "Rom" Adams, owned and operated for many years.

She was a charter member of the Boone Worthwhile Woman's Club, the Mountaineer Garden Club and the Dan'l Boone Native Gardens.

Surviving is a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rom Adams; her parents, James Sanford and Lillie Hartley Lyons; four sisters, Bina Townsend, Nannie Belle Lyons, Edna Stansberry and Cora Mae Lyons; and four brothers, Fred J. Lyons, Dolph Ned Lyons, Ralph Elbert Lyons and Vardell Joseph Lyons.
Services will be conducted Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Roy Dobyns and the Rev. Bud Russell. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 until 2 p.m., one hour prior to the service, at the First Baptist Church.
