Mr. Fred Elbert Brown, age 100, passed away in Houston on Wednesday, January 28, 2009.
Fred was born June 24, 1908 in Allatoona, Georgia to Rev. Mr. George F. Brown and Amy Temperance Lovinggood Brown. He was reared in Georgia. Fred attended Hardin-Simmons University. On November 9, 1930, he married Emeline Glaspy. After their marriage, they lived in Midland, Texas, and, after a time, moved to Dallas. He was employed by Chevron Oil Company for thirty-plus years as Secretary-Treasurer. He was a member of the South Main Baptist Church in Houston and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Being a Civil War Historian, Mr. Brown authored a book titled "The Battle of Allatoona." This book is in the Library of Congress. Fred has lived in Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas.
Fred is survived by two daughters: Susan, and her husband, Ed Crumley, and Kathryn, and her husband, Gene McFaddin; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son George D. Brown, brother George F. Brown and sister Amy Brown.
Visitation will be from Noon until Service time on Saturday.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 31, 2009 in the Keever Chapel with Interment in Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J. E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
