IN MEMORIAM

BERTHA O. FRANCISCO, daughter of B. M. Francisco and wife, was born on the 5th day of April, 1883, in Scott county, Virginia, on Big Moccasin Creek, about one mile from that sacred spot on which once stood old "Pleasant Grove" meeting house, one of the oldest and best known preaching places in that part of the county. She was converted at aout the age of twelve years, joined the M.E. Church, South, and was faithful unto death, which came quietly as an angel of peace, on August 24th, 1907. She devotedly loved God, the Bible and the Church, and lived a consistent, beautiful Christian life. She was not "slothful in business". In her studies at Shoemaker College, she easily lead her classes, having the distinction of being the first and only girl who ever won the Scholarship Medal in that school. As a teacher in the public fee schools, she was kind and earnest, advancing her pupils rapidly and thoroughly. In her short experience as a teacher she was fast becoming one of the leading teachers of her county. With zeal and devotion for her work she accomplished very much more in a limited time than many others have done. Beautiful was the life of this young woman. She was indeed a Christian, full of the Holy Ghost and faith in God. She was loved by all who knew her; and was the object of her parents, brother and sisters' tenderest affection. She wanted to live, but said "I am not afraid to die, I have plenty of friends over there, but I will see my grandma first."
She finished the work assigned her, and then came a peaceful end; like a tired child in its mother's arms. Bertha laid her weary head on the Saviour's breast and fell asleep, to wake in that beautiful city above, where all who knew and loved her may meet her again.

"Another hand is beckoning us,
Another call is given;
And glows once more with angel steps,
The path which reaches Heaven."
