|Birth: ||1832, Norway|
South Dakota, USA
In 1887 both Thora and Mary died from typhoid fever. many in the area were sick at the time. Family lore has it that, A seventy-one year old lady, who lived in Oldham, heard that no one wanted to prepare the bodies for burial for fear of the illness. This lady, who also had a crippled leg, walked the two miles to the farm and prepared the bodies for burial.** Thora and Mary were buried near the home yard. There are no buildings on the land now but the graves are fenced off. There is a tombstone with both names on it and family members have cared for the graves over the years. Jens died in 1892 and we are told that his sons took him to North Dakota to be buried (or was there when he died).
The Stenson's had five children who survived, Anna (Mrs. Andrew Severson). Sofia (Mrs. Halsten Knutson), Lousia (Mrs. Arne Boe Olson, John and Martin.
**Keep in mind that the two died 17 days apart, so did the gracious lady make two trips, or was she there for only one of the bodies.
