"Miss Joyce", of Hampstead, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Cape Fear Memorial Hospital. She was born February 6, 1934, in Brunswick County, N.C., and was the daughter of the late David Burbank Lewis and Clara Gore Lewis. Her grandparents were David Green Lewis and Mary Columbia Willetts. (Their lineage can be traced to the founders of Wilmington, NC who were imigrants born in Ireland.) Mrs. Costin was a faithful lifelong member of Hampstead Baptist Church, the Senior Adult Sunday School Class and was actively involved in supporting the church family especially the elderly. She was a retired postal employee and was presented with several awards for her faithful service. Surviving are her husband, Elbert Costin of the home; her children, Debbie DeBose and husband Larry of Wallace, NC, and Elbert Costin Jr. of Hampstead; beloved grandchildren, whose lives she was very heavily involved in; Jared Scott Yeo of Brandon, FL, and Christin Nichole Costin of the home whom she raised until her passing; brother, David Lewis of Wilmington; sister, Gladys Hickman and husband Retha of Winnabow, NC; brother-in-law, Mack Costin and wife Penny of Clinton, NC; sisters-in-law, Alice Bonck of Virginia Beach, VA, and Marcy Costin of Hampstead, NC; and special sisters, Mary Spiller, Chook Lea and Sylvia Smith.
