Poppy worked in the coal mines of Kentucky when he was young and developed "Coal Miners Lung" disease. He had been suffering from "strokes" and the last one he had killed him.
Sam P. Frasure, 64, of Mulberry Street, Monroeville, passed away at 4:50 p.m. on Monday, December 15, 1986 at the V.A. Medical Center in Fort Wayne, where he had been a patient for 2 weeks. Mr. Frasure was born in Floyd County, Kentucky on May 12, 1922 to Miles and Elizabeth (Ratliff) Frasure. He had been a resident of Monroeville for the past 46 years. He retired on disability in 1971 from Trans American Freight Lines where he had been a truck driver for 10 years. He had previously been employed at the U.S. Rubber Company and also at the former Bowser Co. and also the Crosby Boat Company. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII and was a member of American Legion Post 420, Monroeville.
Surviving Mr. Frasure is his wife, Luella K. (Beauchot) Frasure, whom he married on August 31, 1943. They had celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary last August. Also surviving are two daughters, Lee Ann "Sissy" Frasure at home and Mrs. David (Judy K.) Paris of Monroeville, and three sons, Sammy M. Frasure of R.R. 1, Wawaka, Indiana, Lynn F. Frasure of Monroeville and Rick V. Frasure, also of Monroeville. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and one brother, Edgel Hicks of North Manchester, Indiana and three sisters, Wilma Hicks of Roann, Indiana, Rose Hicks of David, Kentucky and Jean Gibson of Liberty, Kentucky. Mr. Frasure was preceeded in death by one brother, Kelly Frasure.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, December 17, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Marquart and Jacobs Funeral Home, Monroeville, where funeral services were held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, with Rev. Larry Owens of the East Liberty United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery. Legion Post 420 conducted military graveside services at the cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to the Monroeville E.M.S. Pallbearers were Bob Beard, Bob Beauchot, Dave Witte, Harry Johnston, Russ Johnston and Rich Heischman.
