Feuerbacher's father was a brewer by trade. German-born Max served an apprenticeship in the brewer's trade & came to the U.S. in 1852. He found employment in St. Louis at the Uhrigs Brewery & later at the Philadelphia Brewery. He became a partner in the firm of Joseph Schnaider & Company, & in 1865 they built what became known as The Green Tree Brewery. Later Feuerbacher bought out Schnaider & became president of the company. After becoming associated with brewer Louis Schlossstein, the company was eventually incorporated under the name of the Green Tree Brewing Company. (bio by: Connie Nisinger)
