Drexel R. Finley, 69, of Batesville died February 2, 1999.
Born December 21, 1929, in Sidney, he was the son of Shelby and Sally Hamm Finley. A highly decorated war veteran, he was a retired first sergeant for the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He received the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Expert Infantry Badge and Expert Rifle Badge. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Caraway Finley; a daughter, Sheila Finley Gardner of Newark; a brother, Keith Finley of Horseshoe Bend; three sisters, Retha Hall of Sage, Verl Berg of Reno, Nev., and Barbara Tobin of Largo, Fla.; three grandchildren, Autumn Marie Hunter and Kyle Garey Hunter, both of Newark, and April Renee Lewis of Batesville; and a great-grandchild, Alley Lewis of Batesville.
He was preceded in deathe by his parents; a son, Rick Finley; a brother, Norman Finley; and two sisters, Evonda Ferguson and Verna Lee Lawrence.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Manning and Raybourne Bone officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Finley Creek Cemetery near Sage.
Pallbearers will be the military honor guard.
