Birth: Feb. 11, 1925
Benton Harbor
Berrien County
Michigan, USA
Death: Dec. 16, 1944, Belgium

Stanley was the youngest of three children born to Elmer and Ella Larson. His parents divorced when he was very young leaving his mom to raise him. He was nick named Mike by a group of construction workers whom he liked to watch. The name stuck to the point that only his family called him Stanley.

He went to Rochelle High School where he was a great student and leader. He served as student body president and was a member of the National Honor Society. He played tennis, basketball, football and ran track as well as playing in the school band. His high school sweat heart was Maralyn Brennan.

He joined the army on 6 July 1943 from Rochelle, Illinois. He was part of Company H, 394th Infantry Regiment, 99th Infantry Division. He died on 16 December 1944 during the first hours of the battle of the bulge. His remains were left behind as the enemy advanced. After the war, the Army deemed his remains unrecoverable.

His parents put a stone over an empty grave at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle, Illinois.

On 1 June 2001 his remains were recovered by two Belgiums who were part of the MIA Project. He had spent 57 years as missing but not forgotten. He is listed on the tablets of the missing at Ardennes American Cemetery in Belgium. There is now a bronze rosette next to his name signafying that he is no longer missing. On 22 July 2002 he was returned to his family and burried in what use to be an empty grave at Lawnridge Cemetery.

His mother wrote a poem when he departed her pressents on 22 July 1944 it reads as follows...

You said that morning as you stood there
All dressed and ready to go
"Mother, it's going to be years
Before I return to you".

He spent 57 years as missing...missing but not forgotten.
